Pierce’s Story
Pierce is a typical sophomore in high school. He enjoys all varieties of music, but especially rap, hip hop, gospel, alternative, and jazz. He aspires to play professional baseball, but still wants to go to college to become an engineer. However, he wasn’t focused on the future. An only child growing up without the influence of a father figure, he often did not have the proper role model to help him make the right decisions. It escalated into a confrontation with his mother, and his eventual arrest. But Pierce said he now understands the difficulties his mother had, raising a son by herself. He wanted nothing more than to make her proud. And so when his mom found Mentoring to Manhood he reluctantly joined.
Now in his 3rd year of the program, Pierce says he thinks it has positively impacted him. After the first year he personally chose to come back again. He enjoys the projects and fieldtrips and says that it is a great place to make friends. In the end he thinks that the program is preparing him to be there for his kids when he becomes a father.
